Could the D8 pathway be relevant to you?
The D8 pathway may be relevant to remote employees and independent professionals whose work is performed for an employer, clients or a business outside Portugal. Business owners, mixed working arrangements and other complex circumstances should receive an individual review before a route is suggested.
Your intended stay affects the route to explore
Portugal provides different visa routes for remote professional activity, including routes connected with a temporary stay and with residence. The appropriate route depends on the intended length and purpose of the stay, the place of application, personal circumstances and the requirements in force at the time.
We do not ask you to choose a route based only on a website description. We begin with your circumstances and identify what needs to be checked.

What we consider in an initial review
- Whether you are employed, self-employed or operate your own business
- Where your employer, clients or business activity are based
- How your remote working relationship and income can be evidenced
- Your nationality, current country of residence and place of application
- How long you intend to stay in Portugal
- Whether a partner, children or other dependants may be included
This initial review does not confirm eligibility. Current financial, documentary and procedural requirements must be checked for each case.
How we help organise your D8 preparation
- Collect the relevant information about your work and move
- Provide a structured plan for the agreed preparation
- Organise information and documents within the permitted scope
- Identify missing information and practical next steps
- Coordinate related services expressly included in your proposal
- Direct legal or tax questions to appropriately qualified professionals when required
Clear limits, from the beginning
Live in Portugal Support does not decide D8 applications and cannot guarantee eligibility, appointments, approval or authority processing times. Requirements can change, and tax or legal consequences require assessment by the appropriate qualified professional.
Your D8 support journey
- Share your remote work arrangements, intended stay and move plans.
- We review the initial context and identify any clarification needed.
- You receive the applicable service scope, price, responsibilities and next actions.
- If you proceed, we organise the agreed preparation and keep you informed.
- Related NIF, relocation, legal or tax support is identified separately where relevant.
