NISS, NIF and residence status are different
A NISS identifies a person within the Portuguese Social Security system. It is distinct from a Portuguese tax number (NIF), a healthcare user number and a visa or residence authorisation. Obtaining one does not automatically provide the others or confirm entitlement to a benefit.

Depending on the request, identification, address, employment, self-employment or representation information may be required. We will request only the information necessary for the agreed service and explain how it should be provided securely.
