Start with the route, not the paperwork
Your nationality, where you will apply from, your household and the type of income you receive affect the route that may be relevant. Remote employment or self-employment can point towards D8 considerations; passive or own-means income may call for a different assessment. These are starting points, not confirmation of eligibility.
Build a practical sequence
For many moves, the preparation includes a Portuguese NIF, banking arrangements appropriate to the process, accommodation planning and document organisation. A family does not need to duplicate household services such as property rental support, contract review or utilities coordination.
Allow time for documents and decisions
Official requirements, appointments, translations, apostilles, insurance and decisions by public authorities are outside LIPS control. Start early, keep originals and copies organised, and avoid committing to irreversible arrangements before the relevant requirements are clear.
